The Outstanding Blogger Award!

Hi everyone! I’ve been tagged by the marvellous Alexis of The Reading Addict, for the Outstanding Blogger Award! If any of you are looking for insightful reviews or maybe even looking for editing services, head right on over to her blog! I’d like to thank Alexis for the nomination, and for the wonderful questions!!!

The Rules:

  1. Provide the link to the creator’s original award post. (Very important: see why in step 5.) The original post by Colton Beckwith can be found here.
  2. Answer the questions provided.
  3. Create 7 unique questions.
  4. Nominate 10 bloggers. Ensure that they are aware of their nomination. Neither the award’s creator nor the blogger that nominated you can be nominated.
  5. At the end of 2020, every blog that pings-back the creator’s original post will be entered to win the 2020 Outstanding Blogger Award!

The Questions:

  1. Three fun facts about yourself.

Fun fact 1: My right thumb has a different, more squishy shape than my left thumb. My right thumb’s the only weird-looking finger on my hands :’D

Fun fact 2: I chose to do poetry recital for a talent portion in my elementary school’s beauty pageant once. I can’t sing or dance so hey, might as well, right? :’)

Fun fact 3: I love collecting mugs. Not just regular mugs; the cuter or more cat-related, the better!

  2. How long have you been reviewing books/blogging in general?

I’ve actually tried very brief stints at blogging in 2013-2014-ish, but I couldn’t keep it up because of school and my post schedules were very inconsistent. I mean, it still kinda is now, but at least I’m not leaving my blog blank for months at a time, right? lol

I also wrote entertainment news for some sites, as a volunteer, and it was a fun time! But while doing that, I just thought what if I did this for myself, with my own site and my own domain and everything. I’ve talked to my friends and ranted about how some shows, movies, and books have a ton of issues (from plot holes to outdated racist or sexist jokes from recent movies) and I just thought….why not share my thoughts with the public? Some of my rants were okay and I actually had opinions backed with my experiences. So, in April 2020, I finally decided to start my blog!

  3. What got you into reading?

My family! My parents got me cute lil fairytale books when I was little and I loved the illustrations so much so I just kept re-reading them!

  4. What’s your go-to genre? Why?

My go-to is usually YA fantasy or magic-realism. I grew up on fairytales and I love magical elements implemented in “real-world” scenarios, so I just lean into fantasy a lot. I also like YA since I’m still slightly in the demographic, and YA books are easier to find, tbh.

  5. What are your top five favorite authors?

That is a TOUGH, TOUGH question but I’ll list some of my favorite authors based on their works that I’ve read so far.
    a) Madeline Miller
    b) Adam Silvera
    c) Mark Oshiro
    d) Christina Hammonds-Reed
    e) Mary Shelley

  6. What’s your favorite movie of all time?

Why is there only one optioooon omg??? It’s hard to pick….

I really love The Shape of Water. It hits just the right magic realism notes for me, the complex ‘beauty and the beast’ romance was shown wonderfully, the creature effects & makeup were fantastic and so detailed…there’s just so many things I love that are in it.

  7. What book has disappointed you this year?

It might be too early in the year to state this because I’m still not done my TBR list, but I can list one book that’s been a disappointment to me so far. That book would be The Scapegracers by Hannah Abigail Clarke. When I read books, I get first impressions through the summary and cover art. So yeah, you could say I judge books by their cover. But the summary also helps me gauge on what to expect within the book: if there’s more to the book than the summary entails; if the summary reveals too much, then the writing may be like that too; etc. So when I read the summary for The Scapegracers, I was hyped for it; I mean, how awesome would teenage witch covens cursing fuckboys be? It sounded like a cross between Mean Girls and The Craft and I was SO DOWN for that concept! And there’s lgbtq+ representation promised too! But by the end of it, the book was basically just the summary, the promised romance wasn’t developed (unless it’s a red herring for the actual romance but we’ll see), the plot was avoided, the witches weren’t concerned with danger around them…it just let me down so much.

My Questions To You:

  1. What’s been your favorite read in 2020 so far and why?
  2. What’s your favorite book cover?
  3. If you could eat one ice cream/sherbet/gelato flavor for the rest of your life, what flavor would it be?
  4. What song are you currently loving right now?
  5. What’s your pet peeve?
  6. If you could give a fictional character all the hugs in the world, who would it be and why?
  7. And because I’m salty: what book cover do you absolutely hate and why?

Here I Tag:

Of course there’s no pressure to answering the questions, or even posting, if book tags aren’t your thing! Again, thank you to The Reading Addict for nominating me!

  1. OMG, I love your answers SO much!!!! Thank you very much for nominating me, it means a lot that you’ve thought of me. ❤️✨
I’m obsessed with your “fun facts” part because my left thumb is also different from my right thumb lol, I always show it to people, I think it looks funny because it’s smaller and chubby 😂 & I also LOVE mugs, it’s my second favorite thing to buy (the first, of course, are books 😅)
